The phrase “just a click away” has been used to point out how close things on the Internet are. “Just a headset away”, a probable phrase, offers much more thanks to the virtual reality (VR) technologies.

Virtual reality (VR) is the use of computer modeling and simulation that enables a person to interact with an artificial three-dimensional (3D) visual or other sensory environment.

VR technologies immerse the user in a computer-generated environment that simulates reality. This means a lot to users as it becomes possible to enjoy different environments.

The new generation headsets come out with VR applications ranging from games to those giving socialization opportunities. When the user puts on the headset and its components, she/he interacts with a virtual environment, even with imaginary objects. While sitting in your living room, you can enjoy a virtual travel to China, the Egyptian Pyramids, or even to space. You can even travel back in time to a house in the 1970s. Similarly, you can walk in the corridors of your future house. While doing these, the environment is not real; it is computer created, but you feel as if it were a real experience.

More and more sectors and businesses are benefiting from the advantages of VR these days. After all, an army can practice in the mountains, in a desert, either imaginary or simulated, without actually going there and suffering from anything. It saves lives, time, and money. Doctors can work on imaginary patients before significant operations, pilots can be raised while seated in a room on the ground. Students can take distance learning classes as if they were sitting in a classroom. Possibilities are increasing day by day as new applications are developed.

It is out of the question that most of what we have in our imaginary futures is likely to become possible, at least in a virtual way thanks to VR. Millions will be able to enjoy traveling in space, see the Arctic, or climb Mount Everest in their lives. What would you pick?
