Assistant Professor Utkan Demirci developed a number of micro-devices including a microchip to diagnose AIDS. This microchip diagnoses HIV/AIDS within a few minutes. He invented it in 2006 and tested it on 115 patients in Tanzania in 2010. He has taken many scientific awards because of his invention. He was among the ten outstanding young science people in “Medical Innovation” in 2009. He has taken Harvard Medical School Young Investigator Award.
