Hulusi Behçet was bom on the 20th of Febmary, 1889 in İstanbul. He was the son of Ahmet Behçet. Ahmet Behçet was one of Atatürk’s ffiends. Hulusi Behçet began to receive his education in Beimt because of his father’s work. Then he studied hard to become a doctor, and he came back to Türkiye. He graduated from the the Faculty of Medicine. He worked as a dermatologist in the hospitals in Edime, Eskişehir and Kırklareli during World War I and the War of Independence. He established the Dermatology Clinic at the Faculty of Medicine at Marmara University. He became the first Turkish academic to receive the title of professor in 1933. He was the first scientist to describe a blood vessel disease. Today, the name of this disease is “Behçet’s disease” in the medical literatüre. He died of a sudden heart attack on the 8th of March, 1948. Many classes, laboratories and libraries took his name after his death. One of his students printed his name on a postage stamp in 1980.
