The Milwaukee Native American Indian Festival

North America’s largest American Indian festival is celebrated at Milwaukee’s lakefront Henry Maier Festival Park for three days in September every year. Thousands gather in Milwaukee, USA, to celebrate the Indian culture. The preparations take months. Dance teams from all over the country practice to compete in the tribal Pow Wow dance contest. Indian craftsmen work to produce the many traditional items on display. Then, in the week before the festival, the stalls are put up and the food is prepared so that everything will be ready for the big day. During this three-day event, contemporary American Indian entertainers combine with traditional arts, crafts and cuisine reflecting the diversity and richness of North American Indian cultures.

Jeonju Bibimbap Festival

The festival is held for 4 days in Jeonju, South Korea in October every year. Thousands of people come together to celebrate a popular Korean rice dish which is called Bibimbap. It is made with rice mixed with vegetables, egg, red pepper paste and meat. The main highlight of the festival is the making and tasting of the world’s biggest bibimbap. The festival includes all sorts of events, cooking competitions and performances. A variety of traditional Korean folk games to gain different ingredients for bibimbap and their locations to play, a market selling traditional crafts, local food stands, stages for concerts are all prepared beforehand. Thus, all sorts of enjoyable events, cooking competitions and performances are held during these 4 days.

Earth and Arbor Day

Arbor Day was started by Julius Morton in Nebraska in 1872. He proposed the day of tree planting as a way to repopulate his home state with trees. Today, many countries observe such a holiday. It is celebrated either the last Friday of April, or whenever the climate allows. Tree planting festivals are held and more trees are planted on this day. Earth Day was launched by Senator Gaylord Nelson Wiscon in 1970. It is celebrated every 22nd April in the USA in honor of his environmental consciousness movement. Activities include planting trees and
local trash cleanups. Earth Day and Arbor Day both come to emphasize the end goal of improving our planet and celebrate hope for the future.

Sapporo Yuki Matsuri Snow Festival

Yaki Matsuri is the Japanese name of the snow festival that takes place in Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido Island in northern Japan every year. The event is usually held at the beginning of February running for seven days. A large number of visitors travel to Sapporo to admire the two hundred snow sculptures and ephemeral statues displayed in the city’s several districts. Thousand local amateurs and foreign professionals combine their efforts and creativity to build these statues of snow and ice. Gigantic snow sculptures and masterpieces are made out of ice during the festival.
