In this issue of our magazine, two readers, Brian and Sandra, share their experiences from their journeys in two extreme places: the hot desert in South Africa and the cold (1) , Antarctica. Read their comments to find out the challenges of these unique climates and the unforgettable memories.

Brian

The desert was incredible! I have never experienced such a hot place before. During the day, the temperature was rising every hour. The place had a strange beauty besides its extreme (2) conditions. It was peaceful and quiet - just me, endless sand, and the wind. (A) If you want to enjoy the desert, you need to be ready for the heat. The Earth's tilt makes it incredibly hot, so you feel the extreme climate. (B) If you don't want to be tired and weak, just drink water. A lot of water! I learned to respect the (3) there. By the end, I was looking forward to cooler weather but honestly, I wouldn't change the experience for anything.

Antarctica was unbelievable! The cold hit me when I stepped off the plane. (C) Unless you wear suitable clothes, you will freeze within a few minutes. The temperature was so low but I got used to it. The view was amazing with huge glaciers, endless (4) and the penguins! The silence was great, too. (D) If you want to see the wildlife, you must endure the cold weather but it's worth it. It was hard to stay outside for long, with the freezing wind and low temperatures. I missed the warmth of (5) but the place had a special energy of its own!
