Heart-stopping activities such as rock-climbing, white-water rafting and parachute diving are the examples of “extreme sports” or in other words “adventure sports”. Many people are interested in these sports. For example more than half a million of people do rock-climbing in the USA. One of the most popular extreme sports is BASE jumping. BASE stands for BUILDING, ANTENNA, SPAN and EARTH. BASE jumping is jumping off tall buildings, towers and bridges using a parachute. It’s dangerous, but of course that’s why BASE jumpers love it. There are some basics in BASE jumping. All jumpers should take the following safety items on any base jump. Helmet: A helmet can make the difference between life and death. It’s important for all extreme sports. Shoes and ankle protection: Your feet touch the ground first when you jump. Proper footwear can protect you from broken feet or ankles. First-aid kit: A first-aid kit can save your life if you get injured and have to wait for medical help. Mobile phone: It’s very important if the jump goes wrong and you need help.
