As part of the Eastern and South-eastern Anatolian Provinces Cultural Inventory Project, a group of archaeologists, led by Professor Uluçam, discovered Karahan Tepe in Şanlıurfa in 1997.

They reported that the Neolithic communities erected the steles at the site, dating back to 9100-8400 BC. Karahan Tepe also changed all theories about human history, just as Göbeklitepe did in the past. We know that the first temples and home grounds were born about 1,500 years before the birth of architecture.
