Big-budget ‘The Hunger Games’ gets it right!
Based on the best-selling young-adult
trilogy by Suzanne Collins, ‘The Hunger Games’ takes place in the future and in a fictional nation called Panem which has twelve poor districts. İt telis the dark tale of a sixteen- year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen from the 12th district.
Each year, the Capitol randomly selects one girl and one boy from each of the twelve districts to participate in the Hunger Games.
The twenty-four tribute children fight to the death in an arena until only one remains.
This so-called entertainment for rich people shows the government’s total power in Capitol. When her little sister Primrose is selected as tribute, Katniss volunteers to replace her and represents their district with Peeta Mellark in Hunger Games. They try to protect each other during the games. Katniss uses her knowledge of hunting and archery to survive.
Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive after the Hunger Games. They return home. Katniss returns to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. They expect a peaceful future. But the Capitol is angry because the couple becomes the symbol of a rebellion against the government. The Capitol wants Peeta and Katniss to calm the people by visiting the districts. They have to convince people that they are madly-in-love teenagers- not rebellious. If they fail, both their families and their entire district might be in danger.
I think it is a fascinating character drama and successfully captures the book. The film has got an excellent plot and a good cast.
