Can you imagine a life without travelling? Is it possible? We all travel either to reach our goals, to have fun and rest or just to experience. In fact, why we travel is up to our perspectives on life itself.
(l Rosie Swale-Pope, born on 2nd October 1946, in Davos, Switzerland, is a traveller. At the age of 18, she hitch-hiked to Dephi, Nepal and Russia. After she got married, she sailed to Italy with her husband. They lived happily together and travelled so much that their son was born on a boat during a journey.
(2 Unfortunately, her husband died of cancer in 2002. Rosie felt too depressed at first. Then she thought that she had to do something to change her mood. Therefore, she decided to travel around the world by running to highlight the importance of early diagnosis of cancer and to raise money for the cancer charities. She aimed to run around the northern hemisphere, without any supportive crew.
t She started to travel from her hometown, Tenby, in Wales on her 57th birthday, 2nd October 2003. She only had some food and basic campaign equipment in her special designed cart. She used her cart both for sleeping, sheltering and storage as well. She rented out her cottage to have money for her expenses.

^4 By 5th April 2004, she reached Moscow, Russia and on 15th September 2005, she reached Magadan in far eastern Russia. Because of the hard winter in Alaska, it was too difficult to reach the road again. She was in Edmonton, Canada in October 2006. It took her 4 years to reach New York city, the USA. During her travelling, her son maintained a website. So Rosie’s supporters could follow regular updates about her location.
She says: “I pulled out a map of the world and tried to choose a destination formy run. I knew, ‘I would run the whole world – it would be like a package tour on legs.”
Ç In Alaska, Rosie stayed in a hospital for some time because of her broken ribs. So she could continue her run to eastern Iceland, in February 2008.
İ6 Rosie Swale-Pope, successfully completed her five-year around-the-world run on 25th August 2008. A large crowd of Tenby residents and supporters welcomed her. She was smiling proudly, because she could feel that her life was meaningful. The amount of money she raised for the charities was £250,000. The distance she travelled was 32.000 kilometres. What she achieved was unbelievable.
