Are you scared of anything?
A phobia is an irrational fear of something that you have no real reason to be afraid of. I mean the feared object or situation may or may not be something that is dangerous. For example, a person can have a phobia or a fear of mice, dirt or going to the dentist. Or the fear may have potential danger such as a snake, or heights, but the fear is excessive and exaggerated. Phobias are psychological phenomenas that grip many people. Almost everyone has one. A lot of people are able to overcome them. But there are some phobias that really are crazy, and I would like to share with you the most confusing, confounding, and hilarious phobias to date. Can you believe people may suffer from Xanthophobia-fear of the colour yellow, Phengophobia-fear of daylight or sunshine, Cyclophobia-fear of bicycles? Ready? Here we go for some stories!
Nikki Reynolds, 19, Twerton
One weird phobia that I had, was the fear of cars. My fear of cars had dimmed down quite a bit since I was little, but I still jump a bit if I hear one and keep a safe distance away from them.
When I was younger I remember having repeated nightmares of a car trying to run me över. Sometimes I would be chased by a car and I would run on to the sidewalk or grass, thinking it was safe since the car should stay on the road, but it would still drive after me. I would even try running into houses but the car would break through the walls of the house and continue to chase me. Another reoccurring nightmare was that I was stuck on a road, inches from the sidewalk, but I couldn’t move. I would try and try to, at least, roll över to the sidevvalk before the car came but I still couldn’t move. I blame my mother for my phobia. She was full of anxieties about the possible dangers for me. She continually warned me of the danger of cars. I haven’t had these dreams in a long time, my fear of cars started to go away. Living near the city now, l’m glad I don’t really have that phobia anymore or else I would be in an endless nightmare.
Angelica King,13, SouthGate
I have a great fear of having stuffed animals or dolls on or near my bed when l’m in it. I just discovered this last year. I got that amazing stuffed bunny as a birthday gift and I just found it so cute and snuggable-that I just couldn’t resist taking it with me to bed… and after laying in bed for less than a minute I tossed the evil thing on my desk. And even that wasn’t far enough away. I don’t know where that bunny is anymore. It’s evil now and I don’t want to see it anymore. I really wonder the cause of my phobia.
