Dede Korkut is a mythical wise man who appears in epics, stories, and tales. According to some sources, Dede Korkut was from the Bayat tribe of the Oghuz and was the son of a cult figure, Kara Hodja. He appeared in the time of the ninth ruler, Inal Sır Yavkuy, and he was the consultant of the tenth ruler, Kayı Inal Khan, and three Oghuz rulers after him. He took his roots from the traditions of nomadic life and had an important place in the social life of the Oghuz with his wise sayings and melodic narratives. The Book of Dede Korkut is a narration of his epic and lyrical poems and the events he experienced. The book contains twelve stories and dates from the 15th century. It was able to stand the test of  time by two means: written sources and spoken culture. Values such as generosity, hospitality, and courage in Dede Korkut’s narratives and mottoes are still alive today. They play an important role in the a construction of social and cultural peace in society.
